For many years, throughout the growing season, we’ve tracked the bloom cycle of various flowering trees and shrubs on the landscape. Bloom timing on Dogwoods, Magnolias, Rhododendrons, Azaleas and others are monitored beginning in the Spring. For each plant, we log when blooming begins (or bud break), peak bloom, and when the blooming period ends (or bloom drop). Our vast database allows us to analyze blooming periods in year over year comparisons, which give us an accurate time-frame in which to expect a specific type of plant to flower. This information is important when we are designing a garden area and are looking to maximize the length of color, or in the plant selection process during a garden rework.
