Deciduous Conifers

Deciduous conifers are a category of tree with attributes of both deciduous and coniferous trees. They are cone bearing trees which display fall color and shed foliage each season. Deciduous conifers are specimen trees that complement the landscape with uncommon, beautiful, and unique attributes.

There are about 20 species of deciduous conifers. Here at Great Hill, we have only a few of the more common varieties that are suitable for our zone. These are, Golden Larch, Bald Cypress, and Dawn Redwood. Many of these trees look like normal evergreens during the growing season but reveal stark contrasts to the same trees during the winter months. The unique qualities of these trees enhance any landscape setting, adding fall color, unique cone presentation during the growing season, and interesting structure in the winter months.
